How are Asian cities shaping, and being shaped by, international law? A new volume published by Hart Publishing explores the growing international role of Asian cities and the legal challenges they face.

The ILA Committee Urbanisation and International Law – Potentials and Pitfalls is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of Asian Cities and the International Legal Order: Rising Legal Metropolises and Urban Challenges, edited by Nengye Liu and Ethan Beringen and published by Hart Publishing, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing. The book is now available for pre-order, with publication scheduled for May 2027.

The volume is the outcome of the inaugural Asian Cities and the International Legal Order Workshop, held in 2025, which brought together scholars to examine the evolving relationship between cities and international law, with a particular focus on the Asian context.
