Urbanisation and International Law - Potential & Pitfalls
Membership
The Committee welcomes new members and anticipates growing interest in the topic as ILA national branches become more actively engaged through member nominations. Given its global reach, the ILA provides a unique platform for the collaborative study of the urbanisation of international law.
Interim Report (2026)
The Report explores one of the defining transformations of contemporary international law: the increasingly reciprocal relationship between cities and the international legal order. Cities are no longer simply places where international law is implemented. They are becoming influential actors in global governance, while international legal norms increasingly shape urban governance, local autonomy, and everyday life.
