New on EJIL: Talk!: Helmut Aust on Free Economic Zones and Peacebuilding in Ukraine

The ILA Committee on Urbanisation and International Law – Potential & Pitfalls is pleased to highlight a recent contribution by our Co-Chair, Helmut Philipp Aust, published on EJIL: Talk!

In his post, "A Free Economic Zone as an Element of Peace for Ukraine," Helmut examines proposals to establish a free economic zone as part of a future peace settlement for Ukraine. The post explores the legal and policy implications of such an arrangement, asking whether a special territorial and economic regime could contribute to post-conflict reconstruction while remaining consistent with the principles of international law.
